There are four
strokes are required to complete one cycle in a gasoline engine operation. In
the first stroke, the piston moves down and the mixture
of gasoline and air flows into the cylinder. This first down stroke is
called intake stoke. In the second stroke, the piston
moves upward into the close upper part of the cylinder to squeeze the
gasoline-air mixture into a tiny space. This is called compression
stroke. The mixture in the cylinder is ignited by a
spark plug and it expands quickly and forces the piston down to give power.
This stroke is called power stroke or combustion stroke. When the piston
reaches the bottom it’s stroke, the cylinder is filled
with burned gases and the piston moves upwards to push them out. This is
called the exhaust stroke.
